Saints Peter & Paul’s Music Ministry participates in weekly liturgies as well as special events throughout the year. There are multiple ways one can participate beginning with the Cantors and the Choir.
Our goal is to provide the highest quality and variety of music for our faith community by utilizing the musical gifts of our parishioners, as well as those of guest musicians, so that every individual, young and not so young may experience a close, loving and meaningful relationship with God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Our Teen CME is comprised of youth who attend our parish schools and schools in the surrounding area. Organized in the winter of 2005, this group has grown in numbers as well as matured in its' creative and technical ability to delivery Contemporary Christian music. The group is led by the parish Music Director and assisted by two adult members of the parish.
Mass: 10:30 am 2"d and 4th Sunday of the month
Rehearsal: 6:30 pm every Tuesday at Saints Peter and Paul Church
Church - Teenagers turning 13 by December 31 and who sing and/or play instruments, are welcome and invited to join.
The parish choir and Hispanic Music Ministry Group join voices each year for various services as needed, but especially during Holy Week. This is one of the busy times of the liturgical year when choir members attend not only their own church choir rehearsal for the weekend Masses, but also an additional rehearsal with the Hispanic Music Ministry Group to prepare for the Holy Thursday service. We really have a great time singing together and appreciate each other for the musical gifts each one of us has to bring to liturgy. It is truly a blessing and gift when we are able to sing God's praises together.
~ Our rehearsal location alternates every month with the hope of accommodating travel distance for our choir members. i.e. January - at St. Michael's Mission Church; February - at Saints Peter & Paul Easton Time: 6:30 p.m. (Fall through Spring)
Masses Sung 1st Sunday of the month - Saints Peter & Paul Church, Easton, MD
The cantor is song leader - the person whose job it is to encourage the congregation to fully participate at Mass by singing during the service.
Cantors are coached and trained by the Parish Director of Music. New cantors work with a “Buddy” until he or she is ready, and comfortable to cantor on their own. All cantors and parish musicians meet a few times between the months of September and June to learn new music and review the newest hymn list for upcoming liturgies. As a parish cantor you will be scheduled to sing for Masses each month according to your availability. All cantors are asked to substitute for each other when needed.
The ability to read music is helpful but not necessary. It is important, however, that cantors have a good feel for music, are able to sing on pitch and learn music with relative ease.
Won’t you consider being a cantor at one of our three parish churches? Give back to God the gifts He has given you.
