Library Media Center

The Library Media Center (LMC) is located in the Father John J. Farrington Building across from the high school. The Library Media Center is fully automated with 17 computer stations with Internet and printer access. With a collection of over 7,000 volumes, 1,000 reference materials, and 400 videos/DVDs, the LMC provides a diverse collection of materials for student research needs and personal interest.  The Library Media Center is to be used for educational purposes only and respect for others is to be strictly adhered to.

Guidelines for Use:

Hours:  Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 3:30 PM

  • Students may use the LMC independently before school, during lunch periods, and after school
  • Students will need a pass to visit the LMC if not accompanying a class
  • The student ID card serves a their library card and must be present in order to check out materials
  • Internet use is allowed following the guidelines of the Computer Network Acceptable Use Policy
  • Books and periodicals may be checked out for two weeks
  • Students must pay for lost or damaged library materials or equipment
  • Students must log on using assigned user names and passwords in order to use these computers.

Database Access:

The Library Media Center maintains a number of databases that students can access on and off campus. All library materials are listed on Athena, an online catalog (look for the purple icon on the desktop). For instructions on how to use Athena, please ask the librarian.

  • EBSCO MasterFile:  Database of full-text articles from popular magazines, accessible with a Maryland Public Library card

Instructions For Full-Text Magazine Articles Using EBSCO Masterfile:

    1. Type in the following URL: http://www.talb.lib.md.us
    2. Halfway down the page on the left, click on the blue link:  Do research
    3. On the next page, in the right column, click on the blue link:  Newspapers and Magazines
    4. You will get a page with a list of databases. The fifth link is marked "MasterFile Premier".   Click on this link.
    5. You will now see a page that says “Welcome to EBSCO”.  To proceed, you must scroll down and type in the number on your Maryland Public library card, and then click the button "Proceed to MasterFILE Premier".
    6. You will now be on the main page for the EBSCO Host Research Databases.  You can type into the “Find” box, the topic that you would like to research.  If you would like a full-length rather than just a summary of an article, in the “Refine Search” box, check the box that states “Full Text”.  Then click on the box that states “Search”.  A list of articles will come up which you can choose from.
  • Literature Resource Center
    Database of literary criticism, author and other background information on various literary works, accessible with a Maryland Public Library card.

Instructions For Using The Literature Resource Center:

    1. Go to: http://www.esrl.lib.md.us/
    2. On left side of page click on:  “Resources ---- Electronic Databases”
    3. On the page that comes up, click on “Electronic Databases”.
    4. Scroll down to “Literature Resource Center” and click on it.
    5. You must then type in a valid Eastern Shore Library card number.
    6. Click “Proceed”.
    7. Searches can be done by Author, Title, or Keyword.
    8. For works of criticism, click on the tab:  “Literary Criticism, Articles, & Work Overviews”
  • SAILOR
