Sunday Kids' Program

“Education in the faith by the parents should begin in the child’s earliest years.  This already happens when family member helps one another grow in faith by the witness of a Christian life in keeping with the Gospel.  Family catechesis precedes, accompanies, and enriches other forms of instruction in the faith.  Parents have the mission of teaching their children to pray and to discover their vocation as children of God.  The parish is the Eucharistic community and the heart of the liturgical life of Christian families; it is a privileged place for the catechesis of children and parents” (Catechism, 2226).

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Children,

WELCOME to Saints Peter and Paul Church and our Parish Christian Faith Formation Program for parishioners with children in Kindergarten through Grade 8.  As we open our Sunday Children’s Program, please know that we do so first with recognition of the times we have suffered during the past year and a half and with sincere prayer for the loss of life that has been experienced.

We are delighted that you are here at Saints Peter and Paul Church and we look forward to your time with us.  Whether you are new to our Church or have been with us for years, we hope you will feel at home with us as we worship, pray, learn, serve, and grow in faith together.

UPDATE FOR 2021/2022 SCHOOL YEAR

We will resume full enrollment and in person classes. We have a gifted and creative team of catechists who support you in teaching the faith to your children. Our classes will be held at Saints Peter and Paul Elementary School.  These sessions will be on Sundays from 8:45 am until 10:00 am.  Sunday Kids’ Program is followed with the Holy Mass at Saints Peter and Paul Church at 10:30 am. Registration is currently open and online.  We require all registrations to be completed by July 30th.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION

Please remember that registration in Sunday Kids’ Program is not registration in the Sacramental formation classes for First Confession, First Holy Communion, nor Confirmation.  These are separate registrations made first as a “Request for Registration” on our website under Faith Formation.

The requirements for the reception of the sacraments include weekly participation in the weekend liturgy, successful completion of Religious Education classes in either a Catholic Church Program or a Catholic School (minimum of two consecutive years PRIOR to the year of reception), and participation in parent and child meetings/sessions, as well as retreats.  We must have a record of the child’s baptism or a copy of the baptismal certificate.  All participants must be registered parishioners.

Registration and additional forms for Faith Formation can be found below this letter.  If you have any questions, please contact us at 410-822-6581 or email religioused@ssppeaston.org or lsteinmiller@ssppeaston.org.

FOLLOWING JESUS IS THE WORK OF A LIFETIME

Guiding your family in following Jesus is both a serious duty and a challenge. Let’s not forget, however, it is our heritage and should be celebrated and charged with intense joy!  We must support and promote the formation of our children through relationships with adults, like yourself, who live and model the Christian faith.

Joyfully in Christ,

Linda Steinmiller
